A Decade of the Sun

NASA have published a ‘ decade of the sun’ over 1 hour taken from 425,000.000 images of the SUN over ten years.

The SUN is the ultimate source of energy for all electrical power on earth. The SUN measures 

1,392 million kms. The Earth could fit into a ‘hollow’ SUN 1 million times. This massive furnace was formed around 5 billion years ago and its now halfway through its life cycle as a white star (it only looks yellow thanks to the distortion of the Earths atmosphere) so it will be supplying energy to the Earth for the next 5 billion years. Every minute it converts 4 million tonnes of matter in its core  into energy. It takes between 10,000 and 170,000 years for that energy to escape from the core.

The escaping energy in the form of light and other types of radiation is ejected from the SUN to the very edge of the Earths atmosphere 150million kms away. The Earths magnetosphere protects the Earth from the SUN’s dangerous radiation but but  photons reach the Earths surface depending on the prevailing cloud cover.

Most of the SUNS’s energy streams past the Earth to the very edge of the solar system.

The hydrostatic equilibrium of the SUN is maintained by the constant production of energy but when this source of energy diminishes the SUN will turn into a red giant and capture or overwhelm  all the inner planets including the Earth.

……Meanwhile solar energy will become our principal source of power. In 2001 the Earth consumed 13.5 TWH mainly generated from fossil fuels which increase the greenhouse effect on our climate. This compared with 7.3 TWH in 1980. By 2017 it increased to 22.3 TWH with a figure of 43 by 2100. More people are consuming more electricity while in the poor parts of the world many are obtaining electricity for the first time and their consumption will rise with higher standards of living. However these figures cannot be achieved solely from fossil fuels without accelerating a climate emergency.In the future the world will move towards 100% renewable energy including solar, wind, hydro electric power, geothermal and waves. Solar is the cheapest and easiest to apply and the energy inflow from the SUN is always available.

In Texas a large state of 696,000 KM2 has the largest  solar output in the US. At noon the whole of Texas has 696 TW of solar energy. In a year Texas receives 300 times more solar energy than the whole installed power capacity of the Earth. So Texas can exploit solar and leave all its prodigious fossil fuels in the ground. 

Texas is developing solar energy at an amazing pace and the whole world will soon be following their lead. The energy is there ready to use and ready to store.
