Off-grid static caravan – Lake District National Park

Jeff from the Lake District called upon Off Grid Installer to come up with an off-grid solar system that would meet his budget and needs. Jeff was going to live in a 12 ft wide static caravan/park home on the newly purchased farm yard and land he acquired. Jeff is going to undertake a massive ‘Grand Designs’ refurbishment project over the next four years. So his main requirements were to have a battery bank designed to last for three to five years (to keep costs down), enough solar power/panels to run his static caravan most of the year round and thus limiting generator on times. Off-Grid Installer came up with this specification.

• Absorbed glass mat 9 × Longi 305 watts mono solar panels (total 2745 watts)
• 9 × solar panel mounting buckets
• 1 × 5kW Combi Inverter with Generator electrical feed in port
• 220Ah @48 volts giving total stored capacity of 10.56kWh
• 1 × RCD consumer unit
• 4 × Leoch Xtreme Range XR-5000 AGM (Absorbed glass mat)
• isolators, fuses, cables and glands required for complete installation
• out door double wall gang socket
• 1 × bespoke battery box 

The project was really successful, panels were south facing in the field and inverter and battery equipment were located in a barn close to the caravan itself (see photos and videos for details). This system will run his mobiles, fans, dish washer, washing machine, central heating system, computers, toaster, microwave, lights, vacuum cleaner, hair dryer and hair straighteners. We also fitted an outdoor double socket in the shed, so that Jeff can utilise the solar systems power for refurbishing his grand designs project.
