Off-grid Air raid shelter, Anglesey

Berwyn Thomas from Anglesey in Wales had a acquired some land with an old air-raid shelter and agricultural barn on and is currently renovating the air-raid shelter into a home. Currently Berwyn is living in a static caravan on-site until the renovation project is complete. The grid connection fee was too high, so Berwyn had decided to run from a generator. Berwyn finally got in touch with Off-Grid Installer as he was fed up of going to the garage every other day to get fuel to run his generator. Berwyn was already living Off-grid, however he was living with the most basic form of off-grid, which is being powered directly from a generator and without batteries. This meant that when the generator wasn’t running, Berwyn had no electric.

Off-Grid Installer recommended one of its smallest packages, which comprised of, 6 x 320 watt mono-crystalline solar panels, 4 x 210 pure lead carbon batteries giving, giving 10kwh total stored power and Victron power electronics with color control screen. A 3kw Victron Multi-plus inverter was installed, giving Berwyn all the power he needed for his power usage in his caravan. Berwyn can finally have his fridge/freezer turned on, use his washing machine and not need to keep popping down his local garage. The system was installed and designed to make it modular for expansion. For example, when Berwyn moves into his new renovated property, additional solar arrays can be added, an additional inverter can be paralleled with the existing inverter in order to increase maximum power output (in watts/kw). Pure-lead carbon batteries were used for now, as Berwyn’s budget didn’t stretch to Lithium, as he would rather a Lithium bank of batteries when moves into his Off-Grid-Air-Raid-Shelter.
