Off-grid farmhouse & workshop, Powys

In Powys Mid-Wales not far from the Brecon Beacons, we have installed a 10kw Off-Grid Solar system. The customers live in an extremely remote part of Powys, where it is prone to power cuts in the winter, with trees falling over in the wind knocking out power lines. This leaves many people without power for several days whilst the repairs are completed. Off-Grid Installer was asked to come and install a system that would reduce there reliance on the grid but at the same time keep their Grid connection. An ESS system was proposed, or Energy Self Storage System, this system can be programmed in different ways. In this instance the system was programmed so that 99% of the power is always coming from batteries and solar panels, unless they have in-sufficient power to do so the remainder is topped up from the grid. If a power-cut occurs the system also has the ability to work completely off-grid. The system will re-vert to grid power if the batteries run down to 30%, thus enabling a minimum of 30% power remaining in the batteries for a power cut. 

A Victron power electronics system was installed comprising of:
1 x Victron Quattro 10kw Inverter
2 x Victron 60 amp Smart solar charge controllers
1 x Victron color control screen 
1 x Victron Lynx power distribution bar

A Pylon Tech Battery system was installed which had 7 x Pylon Tech US2000batteries, making 17.08 kwh total stored energy and 13.664 kwh usable energy.

20 x 320 Watt Mono-crystalline panels were installed using solar mounting buckets. A trench was dug and an armored cabled used to deliver the power back the power electronics and batteries. This Farm House and work-shop run completely off the solar for 9 months of the year severely reducing the customers energy bills, not only this but the ability to be totally off-grid without the lights going out! 

With a payback of 12 years/8.33% ROI who can say no to self-reliance now!
