Telecommunications off grid project

Off-grid installer was asked to design a system for 19 telecommunications stations for an undisclosed water authority. The telecommunications systems send the telemetry data and sensor readings back to the water authorities command and HQ centre. This means that the telecommunication stations have a constant current draw of 0.75 amps, which over a 24 hour period would draw 18Ah. We designed and installed an off-grid solar system that would sufficiently supply the electrical power requirements 365 days of the year without the need for a generator. This was done by calculating the amount of solar panels or total solar wattage needed to produce 18Ah above throughout the winters months and more importantly the shortest day of the year.

Solar Panels
3 x 335W LG Mono Neon2 panels, these are the some of the latest solar panels rolling out of the LG factory. Total wattage array: 1005W. This array will generate a total of around 900 kWh per annum.
Batteries
3 x 210Ah pure lead carbon batteries were installed, giving a total storage of 630Ah. The pure lead carbons were chosen as these batteries dont mind being left in a partial state of charge i.e 75%, they are also the best performing batteries for cold weather and will operate all the way down too -50 Celsius, where as lithium batteries would have switched off at around -1 Celsius. The batteries were wired up in parallel giving a voltage of 12 volts.

Solar Charge Controller
This 60amp MPPT solar charge will take the power from the solar panels and charge the batteries with the correct voltage/parameters, it also has a load connection port, where you can power 12volt equipment directly with DC voltage. The MPPT box will store all the data of discharge and charge, and then at a later date you can extrapolate the data for analysing.
